1. “Sinead O’Connor 1966-2023: Irish singer remained provocative” AP (July 26).  “We spent a lot of time together in Dublin when we were teenagers,” said a friend. “I remember her coming back from a show: ‘I just saw the Smiths.  They were amputhetic.’ She liked to make up words”—it was a word she made up to say what she meant, because there weren’t any that did. One of those words that doesn’t need to be in the dictionary to come across like someone jumping a fence, like the woman herself.
