It seems that the people who are criticizing G.M. for his remarks on the the Israel-Hamas war won't be satisfied until and unless Greil gets out on the Berkeley campus wearing a keffiyah and carrying a pro-Hamas sign. Since Greil is Jewish ,and liberal and left but not sufficiently so in their view, they have a ripe target, and attempt to shame and bully him into acceding or adopting the most anti-Israel, pro-Hamas position possible -thereby proving the points Greil has made about the campus demonstrations.

What an idiotic comment, in bad faith. Israel has slaughtered 15,000 children in Gaza. Calling Israel's obscene exercise in ethnic cleansing what it is is not pro-Hamas; it's decency.

Except that Mr. Rubin was not referring to the happenings in Gaza themselves but rather the way that he feels certain people were expecting Mr. Marcus to react to them. It doesn't mean that anyone on this site truly condones the deaths of the people.

Nah. He conjured some straw man who wants Greil to be "pro-Hamas," and then claimed, ludicrously, that Greil's points about the demonstrations were thereby proved. No one is asking anyone to be pro-Hamas; to suggest otherwise is in bad faith. As it is to equate opposing Israel's occupation with supporting Hamas. My point stands.

Richard Sandomir’s May 25 New York Times obituary of Bill Walton notes Walton’s involvement with Jack and Micki Scott and quotes Walton apologizing to the Scotts at a 1975 San Francisco news conference for having spoken to the FBI. “I am sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused you, and you can rest assured that I will never talk to the enemy again.”

BTW, I have always chuckled over that last entry in Stranded. I’ve been waiting 45 years for that song to drop!

A quick note for Todd re: Devin McKinney: his MAGIC CIRCLES: THE BEATLES IN DREAM AND HISTORY is my favorite Beatles book, and one of my favorite music books by anyone. It's always fun to see him around these parts.

Perils of trying to tell people about good books: that has been my favorite Beatles book since it appeared and there are SO many.

Pleased to see your nice comments about Michael Gray's Song & Dance Man. The 1972 Version you reference is essentially all contained with Volume 1 of our 50th Anniversary Series reissue (Amazon - https://amzn.to/4bV6jO0) and the later updates are in Volumes 2 and 3. You were equally kind about the book when we met at your World of Bob Dylan speech in Tulsa. Thanks!
