I was just a kid in 1953 when Ralph Marterie's cover of Duke Ellington's "Caravan" was a radio hit. The sound of the electric guitar lead was novel then (probably played by Tommy Tedesco; I had never heard of Charlie Christian) and I still love that record. Now however I have to say that I am damned tired of guitars.

I love this. I really liked Counting Crows in their moment and beyond (as well as their fellow travelers, the Wallflowers; "Mr. Jones," there are no coincidences.) They got me interested in writing song lyrics again, because, to riff on what you wrote, it was a cool way to talk to myself again.
